Drowsy Maggie
Mick Hipkiss, Singer with Drowsy Maggie, has been all Britain Ballad Singing Champion a stunning nine times. In fact he was asked not to enter again in order to give the others a chance! He has also won the much coveted "All Ireland" Ballad Singing Championship twice. Besides working with Drowsy Maggie Mick is in great demand as a solo singer and has toured the USA as a soloist with comhaltas. He has also given solo concerts in countries as far a field as Norway and France. Mick's wonderful singing is the foundation of the group.
In 1972, Mick spent his time running the Slillet Pot Folk Club in Birmingham, England. It was at this time that various musicians gathered to play traditional Irish folk music. From these informal seesions Drowsy Maggie were formed.
They have performed at numerous festivals and theatres throughout Britain, Ireland and Europe and have also featured on several radio and and TV programmes in the UK, Ireland and Germany.
